Inverness Airport and the Environment
Highlands and Islands Airports Limited is committed to continually improving its environmental performance, in line with Scotland’s sustainable development agenda.
Recognising the unique environmental, social and cultural heritage of the region served by Inverness Airport we aim to reduce the environmental impacts of our operations and achieve increased resource efficiency.
The management team at Inverness Airport is committed to delivering and promoting the HIAL Environmental Policy by continually improving energy efficiently throughout its operations as well as switching to carbon efficient forms of energy. Through the airport’s Green Team it will measure, audit, and review its sustainability performance.
In the terminal building the airport aims to ensure that its business meets the requirements set by environmental legislation in this country. Through the training and education of its staff the airport aims to gain the co-operation of passengers so that it can reduce, recycle and reuse redundant products and promote a healthier, resource efficient environment. The airport encourages everyone to use the recycling facilities within the terminal and to think before they bin.
As part of its commitment to environmental responsibility in the past 12 months the airport has:
-
Introduced a recycling programme to reduce the amount of paper, plastic, tin and glass going to landfill.
-
Contracted the supply of 100% of our electricity from renewable sources.
-
Reduced the terminal’s electricity consumption through a campaign of switching off and improving the efficiency of the building management system.
-
Taken the first steps towards attaining a Green Business Award.
