Strike action planned for airports in the Highlands and Islands on Monday 30 July has been suspended by trades union Unite.

Talks today to avert industrial action by members of Unite at Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd have failed after the trades union rejected the company’s offer to go to conciliation and mediation with ACAS. Offers by the company’s senior management to address staff at all HIAL’s airports on the issue of pay and to work with the union on achieving greater flexibility in pay deals for future years were also rejected.

Industrial action may disrupt airports in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland at the end of July after employees of Highlands and Islands Airports Limited who are members of Unite (formerly T&G) voted for industrial action over the company’s 2006/07 pay award.

For the first time in its history, Inverness Airport is providing its own radar service to aircraft at the busiest airport in the Highlands and Islands.

Loganair, the British Airways franchise partner, is offering 10,000 seats across the Scottish network throughout September and into October at their lowest ever fares.
