Following a meeting with low-cost airline Ryanair on Thursday 25 April 2002, HIAL Managing Director Bob Macleod said "We had an informative, constructive and useful meeting with Ryanair.

"We now have a better understanding of each other’s position and will work to resolve those areas where there are obstacles. This meeting forms the beginning of what we hope will be a mutually beneficial working relationship that will bring benefits to the communities served by HIAL.

"We will continue to look at ways of expanding the network which includes reviewing our charging regime to determine what needs to be done to increase traffic volumes."
