The Board of HIAL has met with local stakeholders at Benbecula
to discuss developments and plans for its western region airports.
The airport operator’s chairman and directors met
representatives from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, QinetiQ and local business
people last night before today’s (Friday 17 October) board meeting.
The Board members also reviewed the progress of work currently
being carried out at the airport to replace its airfield ground lighting system
in a project valued at more than £750,000.
Bob Macleod, managing director of HIAL said: "Our policy of
holding board meetings at our airports provides us with opportunities to update
our local partners and stakeholders on developments.
"Highland Airways will start a new morning and evening service
between Benbecula and Glasgow at the end of the month which will enable people
to make return journeys in one day. This is something that the local community
have been seeking for a long time and we are delighted that it is coming on
stream.
"BA CitiExpress has also cut its fares on its Glasgow to
Benbecula service which can only be good news for people travelling for business
or leisure between the islands and mainland," said Mr Macleod.
