LOWER AIR FARES FOR INVERNESS
Air passengers in the Highlands and Islands are being offered
significant fare reductions between the region’s hub airports and Edinburgh and
Glasgow.
British Airway’s franchise partner Loganair Ltd has introduced
a new, simpler fare structure across its network and Inverness will now benefit
from the launch of ‘Everyday’ fares.
The new ‘Everyday’ range of affordable and competitive return fares start
from £59 to Stornoway, £79 to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Orkney, and £89 to
Shetland. This represents savings of 31% over the old fares in the case of
Glasgow, 28% for Shetland, 27% for Edinburgh, 20% for Orkney, and 19% for
Stornoway.
A principal feature of the new pricing structure is the
extensive range of fares that can be created by combining the most affordable
fares available for a passenger’s chosen flight or travel date. The trade-up
options ensure that if a passenger’s itinerary is not available at the lowest
price band, they can still fly where they want, when they want by simply trading
up to the next affordable price band.
The flexible nature of the fares ensures that the cheapest
available return will always be guaranteed for all flights and dates selected.
The lowest fares require a passenger to stay a Saturday night before returning,
but there is no other qualifying criteria thus making affordable travel
available to all.
The new Everyday fares also combine with fares to Manchester, Birmingham, London
and other key destinations served by British Airways, thus lowering the
cost of cross border travel to England too. Return fares including all taxes
and charges from Inverness to Birmingham start from £118, to London Heathrow (via
Glasgow) from £119, to Manchester from £122, and to Bristol from £124.
Loganair’s Chief Executive, James Cameron, says: "Our aim is to
make air travel more affordable and so encourage more people to travel by air. I
am delighted that we have been able to undertake this radical review of our fare
structure. Coupled with the recent improvements to our schedules, I am confident
that we have delivered a package of changes, which will be welcomed in the
communities we serve."
