With the year’s busiest weekend to date ahead at Inverness Airport, passengers are being advised that car parking at the terminal may be under pressure.
The season’s first two holiday charter flights depart on Friday while bmi’s new Heathrow service starts on Saturday and the first Snowflake flight from Stockholm flies in on Monday.
Inverness Airport manager James Walton said: “Inverness Airport Terminal recently invested £500,000 in improving and expanding the car parks at the terminal but we do have a very busy few days ahead of us.
“We would ask people travelling from the airport to consider whether they really need to leave their cars at the terminal or if they might take alternative transport to the airport.
“Inverness is a rapidly expanding airport and we expect even more passengers in the months ahead, using the new scheduled services and holiday flights that are now available. We are working with IATL to arrange both temporary additional parking capacity for the summer and more permanent solutions in the longer term
“Improved bus services will also be operating between Inverness and the airport from the end of March which will give people the option of taking public transport to the airport,” said Mr Walton.
The car park at Inverness Airport, like the terminal building, is owned and operated by Inverness Airport Terminal Ltd (IATL). This is part of the PFI arrangement that enabled the new terminal to be built.
