New Manager for Kirkwall Airport
11 March 2005

A man with more than 20 years of experience in airport management has taken the helm at the Orkney Islands’ main airport.

David Blackman, 59, has taken up the post of Kirkwall Airport Manager with HIAL.

Mr Blackman was previously Airport Manager at Carlisle and has worked extensively in England, Wales and Australia. Born in East Africa, he has had a career spanning air traffic control, airport management and aviation.

Speaking at Kirkwall Airport, Mr Blackman said: “I am delighted to have taken up my new post this week and look forward to working alongside the many stakeholders who have an interest in the airport. Aviation plays an important role in the life of the islands and recent developments mean that the airport is better able to support the local communities and economy than ever before.

“My wife and I are also very much looking forward to making our home in Orkney,” he added.

HIAL’s previous Kirkwall Station Manager, Tommy Tullock, retired last year after 27 years service.
