Representatives of HIAL today (Wednesday 25 May) presented their views on the potential impact of wind farm developments on Stornoway Airport to members of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Environmental Services Committee.
The airport operator had been invited to give its view on both the Lewis Wind Farm and Beinn Mhor (Muatheabhal) planning applications.
HIAL is a statutory consultee for wind farm planning applications that may affect its airports and has assessed both proposals in line with its duty to safeguard the airport’s current operations.
HIAL advised the committee members that both developments had the potential to impact upon current flight procedures used by aircraft in the area but that dialogue with the developers was continuing with the aim of minimising this.
HIAL agreed to update the committee on its position by the end of June when the Council will submit its own views on the wind farm developments to the Scottish Executive.
