Inverness Airport handled a record 4,400 passengers at the weekend with a range of scheduled and holiday charter flights flying to and from the Highlands’ hub airport.
The airport’s new Belfast route launched by easyJet on Friday and holiday charter flights to destinations including Switzerland, Italy and Paris saw 2,100 passengers travel through the airport on Saturday and a further 2,300 on Sunday.
Passenger numbers at Inverness will receive a further boost on Thursday 7 July when easyJet launches its daily service to Bristol International Airport. The airport is on target to handle around 700,000 passengers in the current financial year compared to 565,000 in 2004/05.
Inverness Airport Manager James Walton said: “Everything ran to plan at the weekend and thanks to the efforts of everyone at the airport the record number of passengers passed through the terminal with no problems.
“Parking will be under pressure over the summer holiday period so we would ask people to consider not leaving vehicles at the airport if they can avoid it. Many people have already done this and this has been very helpful in managing the car parking so far.
“We now look forward to a busy and successful summer season at the airport,” said Mr Walton.
