Wireless internet connectivity is now available in Stornoway Airport terminal as part of a programme of service enhancements at airports in the Highlands and Islands.
Travellers and terminal users can now log on to the internet in the terminal building via BT Openzone.
Portable computer users have the choice of buying vouchers from the airport information desk or logging on to the BT Openzone website www.btopenzone.com or www.hial.co.uk website to register for the service where various pricing plans are available. Airport users can also access the internet via fixed terminals at the airport.
Wireless internet was installed at Inverness in June this year and Highlands and Islands Airports hopes to roll the service out to more of its airports over the coming months.
Stornoway handled 119,000 passengers in 2005/06, a 4% increase on the previous year, and is the largest airport in the Western Isles. Wireless internet connectivity will therefore be of particular benefit to business travellers and enable them to make best use of their time at the airport.
Stornoway Airport manager John Hay said: “We are always looking for ways to improve the service we offer to passengers and terminal users at the airport. We expect that wireless internet connections will prove popular with the many people who need to stay in touch while on the move and especially members of the business community who use the airport on a regular basis.”
