Highlands and Islands Airports today (Tuesday 8 February) welcomed the Scottish Government’s decision to extend the Air Discount Scheme (ADS) in the region for a further three years.
The Government is now seeking approval from the European Commission to do this.
Inglis Lyon, managing director of HIAL said: “ADS has made air travel more affordable for residents of the region’s remotest areas and encouraged airlines to increase capacity on routes serving these locations to meet demand.
“The Scottish Government’s intention to operate the scheme through to 2011 will therefore be welcomed as it plays a part in ensuring social inclusion and has stimulated the aviation market.”
