Loganair, Scotland’s airline, has announced a major increase in new “Fare Hopper” discounted flights following the Scottish Government’s decision on Tuesday (January 8) to extend the Air Discount Scheme for a further three years.
The ADS gives residents of Orkney, Shetland, the Western Isles, Islay, Jura, Caithness and North West Sutherland a 40% discount on the price of core fares.
And following Scottish Government Minister Stewart Stevenson’s announcement, Loganair is to make available an additional 50,000 permanent low fares on key routes.
A key element of today’s announcement by Loganair is the introduction of an extra weekday return flight on four key routes; Kirkwall – Aberdeen; Shetland – Aberdeen; Stornoway – Glasgow; Islay – Glasgow.
Loganair Chief Executive Peter Tierney said: “This is a very welcome announcement from the Scottish Government and gives us the confidence to launch the most competitively priced and widespread flight schedule ever offered in Loganair’s history.
“With over 50,000 more seats available on our network this summer, this is great news for leisure customers, our tourism partners and the economy of the Highlands and Islands as a whole.
“This will be of great benefit to our island customers and a real and powerful stimulus to tourism.
“The introduction of our “Fare Hopper” flights will provide guaranteed, permanent low fares on four of our most popular routes, reflecting our commitment to continually improving our scheduled services.”
