Loganair announced today that it would operate a new scheduled air service between Kirkwall and Bergen in Norway in summer 2009. From the end of May to the end of August 2009 Loganair will operate each Saturday and Wednesday, thus providing flexibility and choice in holiday arrangements.
Loganair’s Chairman, Scott Grier said: “We are aware of the historical and cultural links between Orkney and Norway, and of course specifically the twinning arrangement between Kirkwall and Hordaland. We are confident that the new air service will be very popular at both ends of the route and will help to renew old friendships.”
Barbara Foulkes, VisitScotland’s Islands Manager, said: “This direct flight is great news for tourism businesses in Orkney. Loganair is clearly building on its previous successes with this latest development which Orkney will undoubtedly reap the benefits of. We look forward to welcoming an even greater number of visitors to Orkney and wish Loganair the best of luck with this route.”
