About The Group
HIAL administrates the Air Discount Scheme (ADS) on behalf of the Scottish Ministers. The aim of the ADS is to support remote communities in the Highlands and Islands through discounted air services and support economic development, accessibility and social inclusion, at an affordable price for residents.
HIAL was incorporated in Edinburgh on 4 March 1986 as a private limited company under the Companies Act 1985. On 1 April 1995, ownership of HIAL passed from the Civil Aviation Authority to the Secretary of State for Scotland, now the Scottish Ministers. Within its group, HIAL has four wholly owned subsidiary companies - Dundee Airport Limited (DAL), Airport Management Services Limited (AMSL), Inverness Air Terminal Limited (IATL) and HIAL Leaseco Limited (HLL).
