Benbecula airport provides scheduled services to the Scottish mainland and other Hebridean islands.
In so doing, it provides vital transport connections for the islands of Benbecula, North Uist and South Uist, which are interlinked by a causeway, but are over two hours from the mainland by sea.
The airport is also used by emergency air ambulance flights, and by flights supporting the nearby missile test range.
Today the airport handles roughly 32,000 passengers per year and has around 3,700 aircraft movements.
On your arrival at the airport, you will be welcomed by the great delights of the locally run Airport Cafe offering cakes and sandwiches and other light refreshments. Known locally for having a great reputation, the cafe is run by the owners of “Stepping Stones”, a restaurant situated within walking distance of the airport. There you can sample local produce, which is on sale such as Smoked Salmon and preserves. Once you have been tempted, you can continue on with your journey around Benbecula.
