Inverness Airport is located just 15 kilometres east of the city of Inverness and is just a 20 minute drive from the city centre and is close to the region's comprehensive transport networks. The immediate hinterland of the airport has a population of almost 65,000.

Up to 2009, the airport grew on average by 6.7% per year - above the 4% growth for all UK airports during the same period of time.
