Highlands and Islands Airports Limited is committed to continually improving its environmental performance, in line with Scotland’s sustainable development agenda.
Recognising the unique environmental, social and cultural heritage of the region served by HIAL Airports, we aim to reduce the environmental impact of our operation and achieve increased resource efficiency.
The management teams at all our airports are committed to delivering and promoting the HIAL Environmental Policy by continually improving upon the amount of energy used throughout their operations.
Through the training and education of our staff at the airport, we aim to gain the co-operation of passengers so that they can help reduce, recycle and reuse redundant products and promote a healthier, and resource efficient environment. The airports encourage everyone to use the recycling facilities within the terminal and to think before they bin.
As part of our commitment to the environment we have:
- Introduced a recycling programme to reduce the amount of paper, plastic, tin and glass going to landfill.
- Contracted the supply of one hundred per cent of our electricity from renewable sources.
- Reduced our airport terminal’s electricity consumption through a campaign of switching off and improving the efficiency of the buildings management system.
