Inverness Airport

Light Aircraft

Inverness Airport is set against the stunning backdrop of the Moray Firth, a designated Special Area of Conservation, and the beautiful surrounding Highlands.  We take our responsibility to this unique natural environment and the communities within it seriously and would ask that you help us by minimising noise levels where possible.  Please avoid repeat over-flying of residential areas, smaller communities and isolated properties wherever you can to ensure any unintential noise nuisance is reduced.  We recognise that designated air traffic routes may minimise the scope for avoiding these areas and do not wish to detract from the pleasure of flying in the spectacular region, but simply ask for consideration of our neighbours as you enjoy your flight.

Information for crews of aircraft with a MAUW of less than 3000 kg.

Refuelling

Both AVGAS and Jet A1 are available at Inverness Airport through Air BP.  Full contact details and opening times can be found here.  While every effort will be made by our refuelling team to refuel your aircraft promptly it should be noted that scheduled aircraft will take priority.

Self-Handling and PPR

Inverness is operated on a Prior Permission Required (PPR) basis.  This means you must book in with our Apron Operations team or a handling agent prior to arrival.

Domestic flights with a MAUW of less than 3000 kg may self-handle.  The requirements associated with this can be found below.

If you intend to self-handle, please contact the Apron Operations team for a PPR:

Aircraft which are arriving from international destinations, including the Channel Islands and Republic of Ireland and any aircraft with a MAUW of 3000 kg or greater must book their arrival through one of our based handling agents.  Details of our handling agents can be found here.

If you are travelling from or to destinations within the Common Travel Area (Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) you must also notify the Northern Constabulary through completion of a General Aviation Report.  A minimum of 12 hours notice is required by law before you travel.  Full details and copies of the form.

Prior to departing for Inverness please remember to check the latest NOTAMs to ensure there are no notices in force which might affect your arrival.

Arriving at Inverness Airport

On arrival you will be directed to one of our northern aprons by Air Traffic Control.  A taxi map can be found viewed here with full details available from the UK AIP.  On arrival at the apron areas you will be met and marshalled onto stand by one of our Apron Operations team members.  If it has been a while since you have followed marshalling signals why not brush up using CAP 637 Visual Aids Handbook Guide.

High visibility clothing is mandatory whilst airside at Inverness so please bring a high visibility vest or jacket with you.  It is acceptable for one person with high visibility clothing to escort small groups of up to five other people.

Smoking is strictly forbidden anywhere airside.

The use of mobile phones and other personal electronic devices must be minimised whilst airside and is strictly forbidden anywhere near any refuelling activity.

If you are intending to have your aircraft refuelled it will need to be chocked.  Please bring chocks with you if you have them or if your aircraft has unusual undercarriage such as spat covered wheels.  If you do not have any chocks please inform the marshaller who will be able to supply a set.

The weather at Inverness is very variable and strong winds are often experienced so if you intend to leave you aircraft for any length of time we would recommend you use chocks.  A limited amount of tie-down points are available for use.  If you would like to use these please inform the marshaller.

If you intend to leave the airside areas of the airport you will need to identify yourself to our security team on return.  To allow ease of access please make sure you bring your pilot's licence and a recognised form of photographic ID with you

Access to the airside areas of Inverness Airport is through our Gatehouse.  Routes from the Gatehouse to the Northern Apron are marked by painted green walkways.  A map of the apron areas, walkways and roadways can be found here.
