One of the Highland region’s leading Fire Officers has played a key role at a major UK fire safety conference.
George Farquhar, Chief Fire Officer at Highlands and Islands Airports Limited, delivered a keynote presentation at the annual Airport Fire Officers Association conference in London last week (19 January 2017).
Representing the Scottish regional airport operator, he delivered an interactive session on best practice around emergency response and procedures to 240 industry professionals.
George said: “With over 19 years of experience working within HIAL’s fire service, I have been at the forefront of many unpredictable emergency situations, and I am now responsible for leading the fire departments across all 11 HIAL airports.
“I was delighted to be asked to present at the AFOA conference and took the opportunity to offer advice on how to deliver a co-ordinated incident response, particularly in the challenging and difficult environments of the Highlands and Islands.”
Held at London’s Gatwick Airport, the international conference attracted a high calibre of delegates and speakers from across the industry, including representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority, Stanstead Airport and Virgin Atlantic, to name a few.
