It starts with great people


And on that point, we had a good day of interviews for our new Director of Human Resources last week.  Some fantastic candidates and with one final interview this week, I anticipate being in a position to make an offer by the end of this week.

With that in mind and in the very near future, our Senior Management Team should be complete. It’s been a long time coming and with everybody in place we should be better placed to progress some of the projects that we had temporarily parked.

Last week also saw us complete our final session on the strategy work before presentation to the Board next week on Barra. Hopefully we’ll not be too long in getting it approved and following that I’m hopeful of taking it out and sharing it with our teams, either later in the year or early next.

Thursday of last week saw a few of us spend some time with the staff and pupils at an Inverness High School careers event. The event was also attended by a number of other employers and between us we managed to give a flavour of work place expectations, what your CV should look like and the perfect interview.

Very many thanks to everybody from HIAL and CBRE who helped out – the feedback has been fantastic and all down to their professionalism.

Tomorrow I have a session with both Loganair and Transport Scotland.  Our agenda with Transport Scotland covers, as might be expected, the capital plan and pensions. Outside pay remits, the revenue budget and our strategy, these remain our most significant issues to address and the sooner we get these resolved the more time we’ll have to engage on the other matters.

The Loganair / Flybe competition continues and although these are early days, it does appear that we have both generation and displacement. However for both airlines this has to be seen in the context of their respective networks, both competing elements and non competing elements.

Operationally, we are aware that the competition has brought a number of challenges for our teams, including the increased number of cabin bags going through and the number of extensions.  I am grateful to their continued patience as we continue to work on the best solution possible.

In the interim, I’d like to thank our staff who have built upon their reputation for good customer service and can be proud of themselves.

Last week also saw our Investors in People assessment completed.  I haven’t had the feedback  but as soon as it’s received, I’ll distribute it to our colleagues and we can share best practice and address any shortcomings to help build our future performance.

Lastly, next week sees us in Barra for the Board on Wednesday and Thursday, so looking forward to catching up with the team and showing the Board our development plans…
