Success for Dundee – Amsterdam funding bid
The prospect of a new Dundee – Amsterdam service will be transformational for the city and region, according to Dundee Airport operator HIAL.
The company has welcomed confirmation that an application to the Regional Connectivity Fund by UK regional airline Flybe has been approved.
The decision was announced in today’s UK Government Spending Review and Autumn Statement 2015 which outlines plans to invest £7 million “to support new air routes promoting domestic and international connectivity and stimulating jobs and growth, including from Dundee to Amsterdam.”
Inglis Lyon, Managing Director of HIAL, said: “We are delighted that Flybe’s application to the Regional Connectivity Fund to operate a new Dundee to Amsterdam service has been approved. This is a fantastic achievement for Dundee and the team who have worked tirelessly to get to this stage.
“Amsterdam is one of Europe’s biggest hub airports offering connections to more than 300 worldwide destinations. A new Dundee-Amsterdam route would be transformational in terms of business and leisure connectivity, particularly at a time when Dundee is undergoing significant investment.
“We have worked closely with our partners to support Flybe’s application and get to this stage, and it is hugely encouraging that the bid has been approved. We now need to work with Flybe, Transport Scotland, Dundee City Council and others to take the successful bid forward and deliver the service.”
