Machrihanish (MACC) Business Park, which includes Campbeltown Airport is one of two locations in the UK shortlisted by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the INVICTUS hypersonic test programme.
INVICTUS is a collaborative programme which aims to deliver hypersonic flight test capability not currently available in Europe, with the potential to make reusable spaceplanes possible. The airport hosted a team from the project recently to explore the suitability of the location for the project and the announcement for the shortlisting was announced this week by the ESA.
Lorna Bell, Airport Manager at Campbeltown said, “The potential for the airport to be part of the INVICTUS hypersonic test programme is exciting and we are delighted that Machrihanish (MACC) Business Park has been shortlisted as one of two locations for this ground-breaking new project.”
