Electric aircraft visits HIAL airports

On 30 March, CEO of HIAL, Paul Kelsall attended an event organised in Glasgow to mark the successful completion of a programme of the UK’s first electric flight demonstrations across Scotland.

Earlier that month, BETA’s ALIA CTOL (conventional takeoff and landing) aircraft covered at total of 1,006 nautical miles including stops at HIAL’s airports at Dundee, Inverness, Kirkwall and Wick John O’Groats. The flight demonstrations were a partnership between Loganair, Royal Mail and BETA Technologies to explore the potential for deliveries to remote communities.

Over the ten days of flights, HIAL airports helped to accommodate the aircraft’s charging during stops on the trip using BETA’s mini-cube charging equipment.

Further testing of the aircraft is planned and you can read more about the programme here
