Successful live exercise at Campbeltown Airport

Campbeltown Airport conducted a live exercise earlier this month.

The exercise was well attended, with participants from Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, HM Coast Guard, Scottish Ambulance Service, Argyll and Bute Council, MACC Business Park, and HIAL. Observers from Loganair, the emergency services and NHS Highland Resilience were also present.

The exercise was designed to test resources and practice procedures for dealing with an aircraft accident at the airport. On completion of the live exercise all participants returned to the Fire Station for individual and team debriefs. The exercise gave all involved the chance to tease out issues and identify future training opportunities, as well as enabling relationship building between individuals and agencies.

Brian Chittick, Board Chief Executive Representative on the Scottish Resilience Partnership, stated: "The strength of our resilience response lies in the relationships we build before a crisis occurs. Preparing together, understanding each other’s roles, and developing a shared ethos and set of principles are essential.”
