Congratulations to both Martin Ross (far left, above) and Jim Currie (far right, above) at Stornoway Airport on achieving 20 years in a Fire Service role – Jim solely at HIAL and Martin at both the local authority and HIAL. An amazing achievement for which HIAL are very grateful.
Jim has also worked at Islay Airport, Inverness Airport and Campbeltown Airport, and has been in the role of Senior Fire Officer at Stornoway Airport since 2003. He’s responsible for overseeing all aspects that the Fire Service undertake, some of which are more surprising than others, for instance bird control, marshalling aircraft and snow clearing during the week. He’s proud to maintain an efficient and effective fire service, and loves “working with all manner of disciplines from external emergency services through to our customers and passengers.” He also states that, “I love knowing that when the airport has been opened in the middle of the night to allow air ambulance and search and rescue helicopters to operate, we are playing a small part in the recovery of casualties and the transfer of patients to the mainland.”
Duncan Smith, Airport Manager, said, “I would like to thank the two of them for their exemplary and dedicated service while with the Company, their professional manner in the workplace and for all their commitment and assistance on a daily basis which is very much appreciated by myself and the team.”
