New lease formalised for Campbeltown Airport

HIAL recently signed a new agreement with Machrihanish Airbase Community Company Developments Ltd, to lease land from them for Campbeltown Airport until 2030.  HIAL have operated the airport since 1996, leasing the land from MACC since 2012 when the group purchased the airbase.

Campbeltown Airport has a long and varied history, both military and commercial, including the first scheduled commercial flight in Scotland which flew between Glasgow and Campbeltown in 1933.

Today two daily commercial flights operate between Glasgow and Campbeltown Airport.  Much of the rest of the original airbase has been developed as a business and industrial park.

MACC Chairman Tom Millar said, “We are delighted that HIAL have extended their existing lease at Campbeltown Airport until 2030.  The Former RAF Airbase has been converted into a thriving Business Park since MACC took over ownership in 2012.  Having the Airport is vital for attracting inward investment for new businesses and increasing tourism as well as continuing to serve the surrounding Campbeltown community.”
