Some of the team at Stornoway Airport completed an 84 mile challenge at the weekend, cycling from the Eilean Glas Lighthouse in Scalpay to the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative.
Donald MacMillan, one of our FireFighters at Stornoway Airport, organised the event as a thank you to Macmillan for all the support they provided to his mother and family during her battle against cancer.
“Macmillan did so much to support my mother and us as a family during her battle and everybody here has a family member or friend who has one way or another been affected by cancer.
We wanted to do something that hasn’t been done before.”
The initial aim was to raise £1,500 but their Just Giving page shows they have smashed their target with still more donations being received. The page will stay open until the end of this month so if you would like to show your support for Donald and the team, please donate here.
The day went very well, with beautiful weather and catering for the team provided by the lovely Macmillan volunteers.
Donald has the bug now and has already started to plan their next challenge. Well done all!
